"Fights and fires broke out, corpses lay out in the open, and rescue helicopters and law enforcement officers were shot at as flooded-out New Orleans descended into anarchy Thursday. 'This is a desperate SOS,' the mayor said."
(AP) — Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, saying they were nearly out of food and power and had been forced to move patients to higher floors to escape looters.
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday that 1,400 National Guard troops per day are being sent in to control looting and lawlessness in New Orleans, quadrupling the regular police force in the city by the weekend.
All hell has broken out, but instead of sending in food and water, they're sending in more police. (What a lovely way for the right wing to get rid of a few more undesirables.) The hurricane was Monday, and we certainly knew in advance it was coming and it was gonna be bad. So why this:
"The Bush administration intends to seek more than $10 billion to cover immediate relief needs in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, congressional officials said Thursday, and lawmakers made plans to approve the request by the weekend. "
The weekend? What the hell, have they been too busy playing golf until now? To me, "immediate" would have been Tueday. There are people there who haven't had drinkable water in 4 days!
Do we need any further proof that Bush has no conscience?
